Father Marcello and Father Alberto commemorate 25 years of their priestly ordination

On Monday, April 8, two emotional moments were experienced in the city of Lima and Arequipa (Peru) to commemorate the twenty-fifth anniversary of the priestly ordination of two of our brother priests: Father Marcello Carrillo and Father Alberto Ríos.

In Lima, Father Marcello Carrillo celebrated his anniversary at the Nuestra Señora de la Reconciliación parish, expressing gratitude for his vocation and highlighting the company of the Lord and his Sodalite brothers throughout his years as a priest. Meanwhile, in Arequipa, Father Alberto Ríos shared his deep connection with the Solemnity of the Annunciation of the Lord, sharing about the spiritual meaning behind choosing this date for his ordination.

“I have been and am very happy with my priesthood”

Accompanied by family, friends and Sodalite brothers, with a heart overflowing with gratitude, Father Marcello shared his deep joy for his priestly vocation during the homily, expressing: “I have been and am very happy with my priesthood. In these 25 years I have been encouraged to continue repeating my own Yes, that Yes that I also said in this same parish temple, but it was the action of God, through his spirit, that can give me the opportunity to be today with you, thanking him.”

At another time, he acknowledged the difficulties over the years: “It has not always been easy, but I am convinced that the Lord is the one who has sustained me and the Lord is the one who sustains us.”

He also thanked his Sodalite brothers for their support, noting that he has felt encouraged by “closeness, friendship, prayer and correction.” During his homily he also urged to always maintain a “yes for God” in all circumstances, seeking to unite in generous and joyful service to the Lord. With hope in the eternity of his vocation, he requested the prayers of all to “make the priesthood received a generous and joyful yes that I can always unite with that of the Lord and that of the mother.”

After the Holy Mass, a warm greeting was held in the parish courtyard, followed by a simple celebration in the community to share with family, friends and Sodalite brothers.

At 52 years of age, Father Marcello has been a member of the Sodalitium since 1988. He was appointed General Assistant for Spirituality by the Holy See on January 23, 2019 at the V General Assembly of the Sodalitium in Aparecida, Brazil.

“How will I repay the Lord for all the good he has done to me?”

On the other hand, in an emotional Eucharist celebrated at the Temple of La Recoleta in Arequipa, Father Alberto Ríos shared his deep personal connection with the Solemnity of the Annunciation, revealing that the choice of this date for his priestly ordination was significant. Inspired by reading the constitutions of the Sodalitium, where reference was made to the “let it be” of the Blessed Virgin Mary as a model of obedience, he expressed: “If one day I were ordained a priest, how I would like it to be on the day of the Annunciation of the Mister” .

Furthermore, he highlighted the importance of Psalm 115, especially the antiphon recited on Holy Thursday during the Lord’s Supper Mass: “How will I repay the Lord for all the good he has done to me?” This question reflects Father Alberto’s deep gratitude to God and the Sodalicio for the path of service and dedication during these 25 years of priesthood.

After the Mass, those attending met in a warm meeting in the cloister of the La Recoleta Temple in Arequipa, where there was a small reception to share with family, socialites and friends.

Currently, Father Alberto Ríos is Vicar General in the Archdiocese of Arequipa among other apostolic charges of the Sodalite community in said city.
