The Sodalitium Christianae Vitae Begins Its 6th General Assembly in Aparecida, Brazil

Next Monday, January 6th, the 6th General Assembly of the Sodalitium Christianae Vitae will begin, bringing together its perpetual members in the city of Aparecida, Brazil. This event, which will run until January 31st, is considered the highest forum for discernment and decision-making within the life of the Sodalitium and a key moment to renew its apostolic mission.

With the theme “Strengthen Your Calling and Election” (2 Peter 1:10), our brothers will begin this time of reflection with a four-day spiritual retreat from January 6th to 9th. During this initial period, they will dedicate themselves to prayer, seeking profound interior openness to undertake the tasks ahead.

The Assembly will take place in Aparecida, a city known for its hospitality and home to the iconic Sanctuary of Our Lady of Aparecida, which attracts over thirteen million pilgrims annually.

The 6th General Assembly of the Sodalitium Christianae Vitae will be graced by the presence of Cardinal Gianfranco Ghirlanda, S.J., and Fr. Guillermo Rodríguez, O.F.M., who have closely accompanied the renewal process of our community.

Cardinal Ghirlanda, a distinguished Italian Jesuit and consultant for various dicasteries of the Holy See, has provided vital support in shaping and defining the Sodalitium charism since 2017. His contributions include assisting in the development of the Ratio formationis. Meanwhile, Fr. Guillermo Rodríguez, O.F.M., a Mexican Franciscan and expert in canon law, has played a crucial role as Delegatus ad nutum of the Sodalitium, advising the General Government during this renewal phase under the directives of the Holy See.

Renewal of the Community

One of the most significant agenda items is the election of the new Superior General and his Council for the 2025–2030 term. Additionally, the current state of the community will be reviewed, and the “text for the revision and amendments of the Constitutions” will be presented for approval by the delegates.

This document, the result of a process initiated in 2020 with the guidance of the Church, seeks to clearly express the Sodalitium charism. Once approved by the Assembly, it will be submitted to the Holy See for final review.

A Call to Prayer

We invite all members of our spiritual family to join us in prayer for the fruitful outcomes of this 6th General Assembly. Under the maternal protection of Our Lady of Reconciliation, may the hearts of the Sodalits remain open and responsive to the Spirit’s inspiration during this pivotal stage of their history.
