Building walls and creating bridges for those who need it most

As part of its evangelization to those most in need, the Bridges project of the Solidarity in March Association of Peru has been building, for the last six years, retaining walls in the town of Pamplona Alta, in the district of San Juan de Miraflores ( Lima Peru).

Advances in the construction of these walls have managed to protect four human settlements in that locality from possible landslides. This construction contrasts with the building known locally as “The Wall of Shame”, that limits Pamplona Alta with the Las Casuarinas urbanization, considered one of the richest areas of the Peruvian capital.

In addition to the retaining walls, Bridges has focused its solidarity work in this town for more than a decade in which they have carried out works such as sports tiles, stairs, carrying drinking water and many others.

Between May and August of this year Bridges has brought together more than 700 volunteers from different countries who have carried out various works, such as those mentioned above, which exceed an investment of S/ 350,000.00.

Alejandro Molina, brother of our community and Director of Bridges, explains that “in Bridges, people from the rich and poor areas of Peru meet. Thus, this initiative becomes a space for reconciliation through the construction of retaining walls like the one we are building”.

Likewise, Alejandro highlights that “the community in which we work has been divided in the last two years by different economic interests that have also prevented us from completing some of the works that we started. I believe that in this sense part of our mission is to promote internal reconciliation in the community”.

It should be noted that the recent works of Bridges in Pamplona Alta have caught the attention of the Vatican News Church news portal, who have made a note in which they show, through testimonies, the fruits and experiences of this solidarity work. You can see the video of this note here:
