With profound joy and recollection, our brother Philip Couture issued his Commitments to Full Apostolic Availability at Holy Name Parish, in Denver (United States), on August 15th, the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary.

The Holy Mass was presided over by Msgr. Samuel Aquila, Archbishop of Denver, and Philip’s relatives, our brothers from the Sodalit communities in the United States and various members of the CLM and the spiritual family in that country were present.

Archbishop Aquila began the homily by emphasizing that “today the Church rejoices with you on the Solemnity of the Assumption, Philip, because you have walked to meet Jesus, you have chosen to respond to him and give him, together with Mary, your fiat: that, ‘Yes, Lord, let it be done according to your word'”. Likewise, he stressed that all Christians “are called to be among those who put their faith, their hope and their trust not in ourselves — as the world invites us to do — but in Jesus Christ, in whom is the word made flesh. And Mary points to the truth of what God has done in her life”.

Later, the Archbishop of Denver highlighted the example of Saint Mary, recalling that She “both in the Gospel and in her appearances, constantly reminds us of the mission of the disciple. And She reminds you today, Philip, that you must point to Jesus Christ, not to yourself, but to Jesus. This is how she loves us, this is how she wants you, Philip, and each of us, to know her Son”.

Finally, Msgr. Aquila invited Philip so that today “you can open your heart and be receptive to the works and motions of the Holy Spirit like Holy Mary. As you receive Mary as your Mother, remember that She intercedes for you and that she will always lead you to a deeper familiarity with Jesus and a greater closeness to Jesus”.

On his new commitments, Philip emphasizes that these “signify the triumph of God’s Mercy in me, in my heart. I experience myself as ‘everything and nothing’ in front of God, with all the paradoxical feelings that this implies. But, above all, I feel very, very grateful to God for my vocation and for his infinite goodness towards me, reflected especially in the gift of his call”.

After the Eucharist, those present had the opportunity to congratulate and share with our brother in this important stage of his vocational life.
