“I do not understand my priesthood without being a Sodalit”

With great joy our brother,  Marcello Carrillo, General Assistant for Spirituality of our community, celebrated the silver anniversary of his commitments of Full Apostolic Availability in the Sodalitium.  The Holy Mass of Thanksgiving was held on November 21st, the date on which the Church celebrates the Presentation of the Virgin Mary, in the ‘Nuestra Señora de la Candelaria’ chapel in Medellin, Colombia.

The Holy Mass for the 25 years of the commitments of Full Apostolic Availability of  Marcello was concelebrated by Juan David Velásquez, Sodalit, and Gabriel Jaramillo.  Also present were Sodalit deacons Oscar Tamayo and Diego Cano, and the Sodalit brothers who live in the city of Medellin.  Father Marcello was accompanied by some of his relatives from Lima and friends of the spiritual family in Colombia.

The homily was given by Juan David Velásquez, rector of the Sacred Heart Montemayor School (Antioquia, Colombia).  Father Juan David invited those present to rejoice in Mary’s attitude in accepting the Word of God, the Word incarnate in her being.  “Today we are happy because one of our brothers, a Sodalit, who has lived most of his priesthood, of his Sodalit life in Colombia, in Medellin, among us, today celebrates 25 years of having said yes to the Lord, of having told him yes to God who invited him to follow him.  And we thank God for his life, because also through his life, to each of us, in different ways, the Word of God has come to us”.

At the end of the Holy Mass, Marcello gave a few words of thanks.  He thanked the presence of two of his brothers and the rest of his family through the networks due to an incident that prevented them from traveling to Medellin.  He also thanked his Sodalit brothers and friends and members of his spiritual family in Medellin.

Regarding his vocation, he shared that “most of these 25 years of full apostolic availability have been as a priest.  Much of what I have experienced and have been able to serve the Lord and others, I have done as a priest.  I don’t understand my priesthood without being a Sodalit.  I am sure that this is my path and the Lord called me here.  For this reason my first thanksgiving is to the Lord and to his Holy Mother.  I am sure that he has not stopped accompanying me, assisting me and giving me his strength”.

Addressing the members of the spiritual family, he pointed out, “although you believe that you are the ones who benefit from our apostolate, there is another very clear reality, and that is that we are also better for you.  When I thank God for these years of consecrated life and priesthood, it is an occasion to thank you.  It is true that we have shared many things.  Many joys, pains, faith, the liturgy, the sacraments, the apostolate.  That we continue to share the same mission.  We all have the experience that this makes us happy and fulfills us”.
