Yesterday, January 29th, 2024, our Sodalit brother José Alfredo Cabrera Guerra died at the age of 56 in Lima. Accompanied by his family, friends and Sodalit brothers, he left for the Father’s House after a tough battle against cancer. Members of the spiritual family and many friends from the cities in which José Alfredo served apostolically accompanied him with their prayers the days before his departure.

Peruvian by birth, José Alfredo Cabrera was born on June 20th, 1967. He completed his school studies at Colegio San Agustín (Lima, Peru). He entered the Sodalitium of Christian Life in 1985. He carried out his commitments of Full Apostolic Availability on October 7th, 1994 in Medellín (Colombia), in the parish of the Divine Master.

José Alfredo Cabrera, educator and psychologist by profession, served in the Church’s mission in Colombia, Ecuador and Peru. He dedicated himself to formation within the Sodalit community and his apostolic service was particularly linked to young people and families through teaching and spiritual accompaniment.

« The Sodalit vocation means for me to be a son of God sent to be an apostle in the middle of the world to announce and witness to the Lord Jesus at all times» shared José Alfredo in an interview on the occasion of the 25 years of his commitments to Full Apostolic Availability in the Sodalitium. «In the Sodalitium I learned to love the Virgin Mary and She has always been a faithful Mother who has not abandoned me at any time in my life . Especially in the hardest and most difficult moments, she has transmitted to me her closeness, her tenderness and has been a hand that has always led me to reconciliation.

José Alfredo had a marked devotion to Saint Joseph , husband of the Virgin Mary. As part of his friendship with this great saint, he participated in the creation of the podcasts “Let’s know and love Saint Joseph”—in which, together with Ronny Macías, an Ecuadorian and member of the spiritual family, he delves into the virtues of the saint. and the “Novena to Saint Joseph“—in which through 9 episodes he invites us to get spiritually closer to the Holy Custos. Additionally, in Guayaquil he organized the San José Meeting , a training space to deepen the identity of being Christian men under the example of Saint Joseph.

Recently José Alfredo was in charge of Permanent Formation in the Sodalitium, and was also part of the team that prepared the Ratio Formationis, a document that includes the training itinerary during the various stages of Sodalit community life.
