José Miguel Montoya is ordained a Priest in Italy

Last Friday, September 29th, in celebration of the holy Archangels Michael, Gabriel and Raphael, our community received a special blessing in Italy. Our brother José Miguel Montoya Guinand was ordained a priest by Bishop Daniele Libanori, S.J., auxiliary bishop of the Diocese of Rome for the central sector, in an emotional ceremony that took place in the Basilica of “Sant’Andrea della Valle”, of the Order of the Theatines.

José Miguel, “the Lord has touched your heart”

In his homily, Msgr. Daniele Libanori stressed the importance of the priestly vocation and the humility necessary to serve God and the community.

“We hear the autobiographical account of the prophet Jeremiah’s vocation. He was young, inexperienced, he hadn’t trained yet. The cultural environment in which he lived and to which God sent to work in his name, he passed without authority. What can you teach someone who doesn’t have children and doesn’t know life? Jeremiah is aware of this and confesses his inability to God. ‘I am young,’ he says, ‘and I don’t know how to speak’”, said Bishop Daniele.

He also placed special emphasis on mercy and credibility as fundamental priestly virtues. He encouraged the new priest, José Miguel, to share the Word of God and to follow the path of the Incarnation, reaching out to people in their daily realities.

“Dear José Miguel, the Lord has touched your heart and has put his words in your mouth. He always humbly listens to the Lord to console his people and bring them the good news of the Lord’s Mercy. Go, then, without fear, to bind up the wounds of broken hearts and to announce that the Lord is close to those who love him”, he expressed.

The day after his ordination, Father José Miguel celebrated his first Mass in the “San Lorenzo in Damaso”, parish. The ceremony was an intimate and special moment, with the company of some brother priests and friends. Father José Miguel was surrounded by his family, his friends, as well as young people and families from the Christian Life Movement in Italy.

The Sodalitium Christanae Vitae celebrates the gift of a new priest in our community and offers prayers for his ministry and apostolic service.
