On this occasion, Monsignor Valdir was able to learn about the work of SOMAR, a solidarity work that is within his diocesan jurisdiction. During the visit, our brothers Andrés Quintanilla, director of SOMAR; F. Alexandre Arosa, chaplain of SOMAR; and F. Andrés Echavarria, chaplain of the Christian Life Movement in São Paulo.

“The visit of the Bishop and the parish priest seemed very important to me because it puts a stamp on Catholic solidarity work”, highlighted Andrés Quintanilla and also told us that Monsignor Valdir encouraged them to continue with the work that SOMAR is carrying out for the benefit of many people in need in the Jardim São Luiz community.

The Christian Life Movement pastorally assists SOMAR by carrying out apostolic activities such as the celebration of Sunday mass, bringing together more than 100 people each week; catechesis of first communion and confirmation, among others.

Finally Andrés told us: “For us it is very positive that our Bishop has come to give us his support and I think that the ties with the Church and other social works that exist in the diocese of Campo Limpo are strengthened”.

For his part, Andréia Souza, SOMAR’s project manager, expressed: “The attention he gave us when visiting our work offers us social and, mainly, spiritual recognition, which reinforces our mission”.

SOMAR is a Third Sector association recognized as a Public Interest Civil Society Organization (OSCIP). His work focuses on the development of solidarity aid and comprehensive training programs for communities of extreme social vulnerability in Rio de Janeiro, Petropolis and São Paulo.
