MVC in Costa Rica promotes formation and spiritual life initiatives

In Costa Rica, members of the Christian Life Movement (MVC) have launched two valuable initiatives with the purpose of strengthening the faith of young people and women. These proposals, known as “Young Adults” and “Women’s Area”, are spaces for learning, reflection and communion, designed to enrich both spiritual life and its formation.

Young adults: Connecting faith and professional life

The “Young Adults” group has been created as a space for faith formation, especially aimed at people in the stage of young adulthood, who are in the process of professional preparation or are already immersed in their careers. This group meets on the first and third Thursday of each month for a spiritual enrichment session.

Each meeting begins with a guided prayer in front of the Blessed Sacrament for about 30-35 minutes, followed by a learning, reflection and dialogue session with specialists, speakers and preparers of specific topics.

Bernardo Sauter shares: “we talk about important topics that nourish me spiritually and above all because I have been able to listen to other people and their experience of God, which enriches me in my path of Christian life”.

Those in charge of leading these meetings, like our brother Gonzalo Vega, along with other Sodalits, propose relevant topics for professional life and the apostolate, such as the charismas of the Christian life.

Women’s area: Promoting union and feminine spirituality

This is an initiative designed for women who want to strengthen their faith and connect with other women. These monthly sessions consist of three essential parts: a talk or presentation of a relevant topic, a space for coexistence and sharing among the participants, and the culmination with a prayer of the Rosary or a Holy Hour.

“The topics covered are very varied and interesting, which in my case, makes me continue reflecting on them at home”, says Katherine Baron.

The sessions take place one Saturday a month, from 9 in the morning until approximately noon. They are promoted by Rosario Gordillo, Valeria Trejos, María Elena Alfaro, Marie-France Spruyt, Irene Campos and Mariela Pacheco. Participation usually ranges between 10 and 15 women, although in a special day held in July, which had a retreat focus, more than 25 women participated.

The idea is to carry out a more intensive activity once a year, similar to a spiritual retreat, to delve deeper into relevant topics.

Allison Woodbridge shared with us: “participating in the retreat: The women who encountered Jesus, was a beautiful and enriching experience. Having that space to not only share but learn from the different experiences we have when encountering Jesus, whether 2000 years ago or 10 or 15 years ago, is extremely valuable on a personal and spiritual level.

In 2023, topics such as Jesus’ encounter with women, testimonies of miracles through the intercession of Saint John Paul II, the importance of prayer and devotion to Saint Mary have been addressed.
