Student from “Colegio San Juan Apóstol” (Arequipa) wins contest to visit NASA
With great pride and joy, the San Juan Apostle School of Solidarity in March Association in Arequipa shares that its student, Yajaira Huarhua Carrasco, will be part of the first crew of Peruvian girls to visit NASA facilities.
Yajaira Huarhua, a 5 grade high school student, participated in a contest organized by the ‘She Is’ foundation and was chosen among the 15 Peruvian winners. For a few months she will be prepared by the foundation to travel to Houston, United States, to visit the NASA Space Center facilities.

“From Villa Cerrillos to NASA?”, Yajaira wonders after this election and emphasizes that “it never occurred to me to dream so much. Now that this is becoming a reality, it is something very amazing that has taught me a lesson: I cannot limit myself to dreaming, but I can dream and, if I persist, I will achieve it”.
It should be noted that the student has actively participated in various workshops and has won several robotics competitions organized by Colegio San Juan Apóstol and other institutions. Her dream, as of now, is to become a member of an astronaut crew for a mission that will reach Mars in 2035.

Victor Ramos, brother of our community and Director of SEM Arequipa, thanks “God for the possibility of serving and cultivating the concerns in the search for the Truth of each student of the Colegio San Juan Apóstol. We congratulate the entire educational community, especially the teachers Liz and Jahaira. We continue to move forward in the Lord”.
Colegio San Juan Apóstol is part of the various works that Solidarity in March carries out in the city of Arequipa. The school belongs to the Sodalit educational proposal and its purpose is to provide an integral quality formation, offering a dignified education that allows them to develop their skills to be agents of change in society, despite the adverse conditions in which they live.

Yajaira Huarhua.
