Sodalits meeting in Medellin: Formation and communion under the Spirit of the Lord
From July 16th to 20th, the Villa de Sales house in Medellín hosted the meeting of incorporated Sodalits, which brought together 17 brothers who have made their perpetual commitments of Full Apostolic Availability (PDA) in the last decade. The event was attended by José David Correa, Superior General of the Sodalitium of Christian Life, accompanied by José Antonio Dávila, Assistant General for Temporalities, and Juan Carlos Tuppia, Assistant General for Instruction.
This meeting is the third held in 2024, after two previous ones in January for Sodalits with 10 to 25 years of perpetual commitments. In 2023, another meeting was held for those with more than 25 years of PDA.
Renewing the desire to continue serving God
Fr. Kenneth, one of the participants, said: “As in previous meetings, it was a moment of great communion and openness, where friendship and the joy of vocation were experienced. I believe that it was an opportunity to renew the desire to continue serving God and to see how He always accompanies us and forms us to grow in holiness and response to our call.”
For his part, our brother Dante Carrasco shared: “It was a moment of welcoming the Spirit that is renewing us personally and as a community. We were able to share our stories and apostolates in our Sodalit life, amidst a great spirit of fraternal communion.”
“I had a great experience of being among brothers who share the same call from the Lord, and knowing that God the Father is forming us from our vulnerable condition. He intervened and intervenes in everything we experience.”
Father Carlos Zamalloa also told us: “These days in Medellin have been an experience of great gratitude to God, where we have been able to celebrate our vocation through the celebration of the liturgy, dialogue and reflection. It has been a stop on the way to share our experiences and to enrich ourselves by listening to and accepting the testimonies of the life of each brother .”
Days of dialogue, reflection and training
In addition to the daily celebration of the Eucharist, the days included moments of Eucharistic adoration and the recitation of the rosary. One of the highlights was the visit of the Superior General, José David Correa, who participated in an open and enriching dialogue with the Sodalits.
The motto of the meeting, “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me” (Lk 4:18), inspired the reflections of these days in which our brothers participated in various activities of formation, prayer and communion.
Finally, this meeting was a space to reflect on how God always forms each person, at every stage of life, not only at the beginning of Sodalit life. Our brothers also reflected on the figure of Abraham, as a model for ongoing formation, as well as community life and liturgy, as privileged moments through which God forms the Sodalits.
