Solidarity Actions That Changed Lives in 2024

The year 2024 was defined by the profound impact of solidarity. From initiatives that brought food and hope to the streets, to projects that provided education, comprehensive care, and a renewed connection with faith, every act of solidarity left an indelible mark.

Throughout this journey, we highlight the efforts of those who, through their commitment and dedication, transformed challenges into opportunities to build a more humane and fraternal world.

Acts of Love in Hospitals and on the Streets

In Lima, through the “Bread for My Brother” campaign, and in Buenos Aires, Argentina, with ‘Night of Charity,’ volunteers not only delivered food to families in need but also brought hope to those facing daily challenges. The ‘Bread for My Brother’’ initiative is also carried out in Guayaquil, Ecuador; San José, Costa Rica; and Chincha, Peru.

Meanwhile, in hospitals in Bogotá, Colombia, as well as in Lima and Piura, Peru, the Siloé ministry demonstrated that service is a way to heal invisible wounds. Through regular visits, workshops, and acts of solidarity, volunteers offered comfort to those in need, reminding them of the mercy of the Lord Jesus and that life always has something beautiful to offer.

A Project with Solidarity and Spiritual Impact

In the heart of Pamplona Alta, Lima, Bridges has built bonds of solidarity and faith between missionaries and families in the Nueva Rinconada community. Through weekly assistance and prayer sessions, such as reciting the rosary in homes, Bridges not only meets material needs but also strengthens the spiritual experience of participants.

Beneficiaries like Liss and Neyer have found in this ministry a path to draw closer to God and a family that welcomes them with love. Meanwhile, the missionaries highlight the transformative impact of their work, which not only provides tangible support but also reveals the joy and hope that arise from shared faith.

Comprehensive Care for Elderly Adults

The ‘Sponsor a Grandparent’ campaign by Solidarity in Action in Peru  has changed the lives of abandoned elderly adults. At the San Lucas and San Vicente homes in Lima and Arequipa, respectively, residents like Don Carlos and Don Oswaldo have found a refuge filled with care and affection. Thanks to donations, this program has improved their living conditions, ensuring more dignified care, as highlighted in stories of hope published by El Comercio.

In Cali, Colombia, the San José Home has implemented a comprehensive palliative care model that addresses not only the physical needs of its residents but also their emotional and spiritual well-being.

This approach aims to provide dignity and quality of life to elderly adults, fostering a culture of compassion and respect. The San José Home has transformed the lives of its residents by improving pain management, strengthening social bonds, and promoting a fuller life until the end of their days.

Education and Opportunities

In the Nigeria neighborhood of Guayaquil, the Acción Solidaria Foundation took a crucial step toward community development by offering free education and sports programs to over 200 children and young people. Through initiatives that reinforce learning and promote values through sports, this project provides a safe space for children while their mothers attend sewing workshops.

The Solidarity Missions of the CLM

From February to October 2024, young people and families participated in missions organized by the Christian Life Movement (CLM) across various Latin American countries, bringing hope, assistance, and a renewed encounter with faith to communities in need.

In Ecuador, the Medical Missions of the CLM were a milestone, benefiting communities near Guayaquil with medical care, evangelization, and spiritual support, particularly in areas with limited access to healthcare services. Meanwhile, in Brazil, young people from Mission Brazil assisted families affected by heavy rains in Rio Grande do Sul, delivering furniture, conducting evangelizing visits, and sharing moments of prayer and companionship.

In Argentina, missionaries traveled to Baradero, where they visited hospitals, nursing homes, and rehabilitation centers, offering comfort and support to those in greatest need. In Chile, the mission of the Christian Life Movement (CLM) stood out for its focus on evangelization and service, bringing the light of Christ to local communities and strengthening the faith of all participants.

Finally, in Peru, during Holy Week 2024, 42 missionaries, including 11 families, had a transformative experience in the “Señor de los Milagros” settlement in Chincha. They visited homes, provided spiritual support to the sick, distributed school supplies, and offered catechesis sessions.

As we conclude this journey through some of the solidarity initiatives that shaped 2024, we want to express our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who, with generosity and dedication, made each of these actions possible.
