V General Assembly work sessions begin

Aparecida, 01/18/19 (Sodalitium News – Brasil). After the conclussion of the Spiritual Exercises directed by Fr. Gianfranco Ghirlanda on Sunday January 13th, the Commissary Apostolic, Mons. Noel Londoño, presided a liturgy which marked the beginning of the V General Assembly’s work sessions. The first activity was a Conference by Mons. Noel Londoño, C.Ss.R., Commissary Apostolic and Fr. Guillermo Rodríguez, OFM., Assistant Commissary Apostolic.

The work sessions began with the verification of quorum and the invocation of the Holy Spirit after which the presentations started and were shown for each of the areas of the Superior Council and the period that has transpired between the previous General Assembly in December of 2012 and today.

During these days of presentations we were accompanied by Card. Joseph Tobin, Archbishop of Newark and Pontificial Delegate who also gave us a conference.

Afterwards there were presentations of the Regions and Territories reports where the superiors explained the current status, apostolate and challenges being faced by the communities in Argentina, Brasil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Chile, Ecuador, U.S.A, Italy and Peru. These reports are meant to offer an updated overview of the Sodalitium.

104 perpetually professed sodalits are participating of the Assembly. They serve apostolically in the 9 different countries where the Sodalitium is. 68 are consecrated lay men, 31 are priests and 5 are deacons. All Assembly members have been participating of plenaries, group sessions and reflection forums that allow them to identify and prioritize which aspects of their live require more discernment and what orientations they propose for the following 6 years of governance.
