Numerous tips, directions, manuals, indications from the welcoming teams, and a lot of joy – without excluding improvisation – is what the members of the Sodalit Family are receiving upon arriving to the “marvelous city,” ready to meet the Holy Father.

With that hashtag #ExperienciaJMJ social networks are being inundated by pilgrims who, sharing congenial photos and messages, describe the experiences their trip to the city. Ricardo Braz, a Brazilian member of the Sodalitium Christianae Vitae, remembering the words of Monseigneur Orani Tempesta, the Archbishop of Rio de Janeiro, who said, “We are not tourists in Rio. We are pilgrims of the Lord,” reminds the CLM members that “patience, the capability to renounce comforts, and understanding the limits of those who are making the effort – limits that overwhelm the their own capacities – to welcome us as much as possible, are virtues that they are going to learn to live in the airports, in their exchanges, in traffic and everything else. Everything all the while being offered as a sacrifice pleasing to God.” These are good ways to encounter the spirit of the youth this World Youth Day.

South American CLM members are coming from Argentina, Chile, Peru, Ecuador, and Columbia. From Central America delegates have already landed from Costa Rica; meanwhile, North Americans have arrived from the United States and Canada. Europeans are coming from Italy and England.

A large delegation of around 600 Catholic pilgrims from Australia come accompanied by the members of the Marian Community of Reconciliation after a few days on a mission in Peru, where they offered an intense catechesis and solidarity work.

The youth of the education projects promoted by the Sodalit Family have also sent representatives from St. Paul Catholic University, the high schools Villa Caritas and St. Peter, Our Lady of Reconciliation and Holy Mary of Chincha, all of which are from Peru. From Columbia, there are also representatives from Montemayor and Saint Joseph.
