STATEMENT FROM THE VI GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE SODALITIUM
On January 18th of this year, the website “Infovaticana” published the news that the Holy Father had dissolved our society of apostolic life. While the core information about the matter was true, the article contained several inaccuracies.
Being aware of this journalistic report, and given the seriousness of the matter, the first act of the day was to exhort those responsible to take accountability for the indiscretion of leaking information that was absolutely confidential.
Two members of the Sodalitium admitted to having violated the confidentiality of the case and, after asking forgiveness from those present, were permanently expelled from the Assembly.
We regret that the misconduct of these two members may have been exploited by the press to cast doubt on whether it was Cardinal Gianfranco Ghirlanda, SJ, Pontifical Delegate of the Dicastery for Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life (DICLSAL), who leaked the news.
The General Assembly recognizes only the news contained in its official statements as its own. Therefore, the Assembly dissociates itself from any other news published or to be published by the press regarding the Assembly, the Sodalitium, the Holy Father — in whom we trust and to whom we are obedient — Monsignor Jordi Bertomeu Farnós, and Cardinal Gianfranco Ghirlanda, SJ.
